Micaela Magazzu-Alaman is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #95925). Micaela’s therapeutic approach is collaborative and person-centered. Her goal is to provide each client with individualized care while maintaining a non-judgmental and safe environment.
Micaela earned her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in 2016. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from San Diego State University in 2012. Micaela is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD) in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University and is enrolled in a Play Therapy Certification program at the University of California San Diego (UCSD).
Micaela has worked in a variety of therapeutic settings, including residential and intensive outpatient programs. She completed her first clinical internship at Rady Children’s Outpatient Psychiatry department providing individual and family psychotherapy services to children and teens, ages 4 to 18 years old. Utilizing a family systems perspective, Micaela collaborated with families struggling with relational issues, behavioral issues in school, grief and loss, child cognitive and developmental challenges, and major life adjustments. After obtaining her Master’s she continued her clinical work in an intensive outpatient substance use program with adults. Micaela provided individual and group therapy services, as well as case management to individuals on parole, probation, individuals involved in the Child Welfare Systems, AB109 and MSO felony offenders and state prison parolees. Micaela has experience facilitating evidenced-based anger management, Seeking Safety, and relapse prevention groups. She has also had training in family therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and play therapy approaches.
