Ann Minnich, MSW, LCSW joined Personal Evolution Psychotherapy in June, 2015. She received her MSW (Master of Social Work) from California State University, Long Beach in 1993 with a specialization in children, youth and families.  Ann has diverse experience working with children and adolescents, families and individuals from all backgrounds. Ann is a San Diego native but most recently worked as an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) for a county mental health agency in the state of Virginia.  Her clinical work was focused on severely emotionally disturbed youth and adolescents and their families.  Ann provided intensive in home, school based and outpatient counseling to a diverse group of youth and families.  Ann has experience working with clients with a diverse emotional and mental health needs including those who are diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, Borderline Personality Disorder as well as various trauma related issues including PTSD.  She has also worked with clients who are having issues with substance abuse and co-occuring disorders.  Ann is trained in auricular acupuncture and has worked with clients individually and in groups to support and promote overall health and wellness.   Ann has had additional experience as a program director providing wrap-around services to families and additional clinical experience working with children and families in the foster care and CPS system as well as working with youth in a residential facility.  Ann has also worked as a hospice and bereavement therapist.

Ann is extremely excited to be working with the LGBTQ community and to be able to provide gender therapy to trans adults and teens.  As part of the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) team at Personal Evolution Psychotherapy, Ann provides DBT therapy to adults and adolescents, couples and families seeking therapy.  DBT therapy is designed to assist people who have self-injurious behaviors, low impulse control, mood swings, severe anxiety disorders including PTSD, OCD and panic attacks, or frequent suicidal ideation. DBT also assists people who are having difficulty relating to and communicating with other people effectively.  Ann is committed to providing a safe and non-judgmental, therapeutic environment to anyone seeking therapy.

Ann works together with clients and families to establish goals and develop insight to make changes and improve their lives. She is a compassionate therapist who provides a warm, genuine and non-judgmental space to develop a supportive therapeutic relationship. She is trained in trauma informed care and in using different therapeutic interventions including cognitive-behavioral, motivational interviewing, solution focused and mindfulness strategies.  Ann has done extensive work with families using a family systems approach to therapy to help improve family relationships and over-all family functioning.  She believes all clients have the strength and ability to achieve a better path and helps them build on their strengths to achieve their goals at a pace that is comfortable for them.
